Home Alone

I am having a day at home alone.

I seriously can't remember the last time I was home alone for more than an hour.

My dearest husband has taken my two treasures with him to his parents house, and I am here, all by myself, and have been for the last three hours.

I know that I promised not to bore you with posts such as these, mumblings about normal things that those of your living in the West would find excessively trivial ... but I just can't help myself.

This morning I cleaned my own bathroom, put a load of washing on (with hot water may I add), hung it out, tidied my house, and then sat down in front of the CNN news to have a cup of coffee.

In Cambodia, I am almost never alone. When my husband and children are not around, which rarely happens at the same time, my faithful and much adored house helper is cleaning my bathroom, hanging my washing and generally being busy.

It's quiet, and all I can hear is the sound of the wind, rustling the trees outside in the forest. Poetic but true. There are no dogs barking, noone passing my door calling out thier wares, no karaoke, no neighbourhood children.

I am home alone, and it is quiet.

It's a piece of heaven.
